Skagit Valley Series, #1
2004 Ultrachrome print, acrylic medium, on watercolor paper image size: 24"h x 16"w paper size: 30"h x 22"w edition of 3 ![]()
This work was inspired by the work of Dr. Robert Thornton who created the Temple of Flora - an 18th century book of melodramatic botanical paintings of beautifully (if inaccurately) rendered flowers and plants with exotic landscapes as backgrounds.
The pseudo-plant-sprouts in these images are digitally derived from personal snapshots. The backdrops are Springtime photographs of the Skagit Valley, a wide and fertile river delta spreading from mountains to a shallow bay that stretches out to the San Juan Islands. |
